Good morning from Connecticut. It has been a year and a half since the last post--can you believe it? And what an eventful year and a half. That oldest daughter is now closing in on finishing her second year at Houghton. And she's making plans for a summer internship at a museum in southern Brazil, which will be followed up by a semester in the Balkans.
Our second daughter has been at a high school in Vermont for six months now.
The church plant is still standing--and a couple of new families have joined since those last posts. Planting a church in New England during a recession has been interesting. Once we reach the point of being a "particular" church, moving beyond our "mission" church status, if someone ever asks me to speak to a group of church planters about how to succeed, I will give the shortest speech ever. 1. Pray that God sends the right people to be encouraging co-laborers, and 2. Stay. And that's it.
Back to work but let me leave a music recommendation: the recently released collection of Bob Dylan songs (76 of them) performed by the most diverse group of artists ever. From Sugarland to Billy Bragg to the Airborn Toxic Event, Silversun Pickups, Cage the Elephant, and Johnny Cash. Great interpretations of these terrific songs. They were selling an abbreviated version at Starbucks but if you're going to do that, you'd be better served to get the whole thing. Currently, Elvis Costello doing "License to Kill" and next up it's "Ring Them Bells" performed by Natasha Bedingfield.
